Cernica An important historical moment for the Cernica area was the discovery of the Neolithic necropolis, about 20 km Southeast of Bucharest (geographical latitude: 44o25’25.8’’; geographical longitude: 26o16’06.5’’; elevation: 59 m). Up to date, this is the largest necropolis on the Muntenian territory, dating back to the Neolithic period. It was discovered and investigated by Gheorghe Cantacuzino (Cantacuzino, Moritz 1963; Cantacuzino 1969). The monograph regarding the Cernica Neolithic necropolis (378 graves) was published by Eugen Comşa and Gheorghe Cantacuzino (Comşa, Cantacuzino 2001).
